Die Provinz Bitlis oder das VilΓ’yet von Bitlis, (armenisch Τ²Υ«Υ©Υ¬Υ«Υ½Υ« ΥΎΥ«Υ¬Υ‘Υ΅Υ₯Υ©) war eines der Sechs Armenischen VilΓ’yets des Osmanischen Reiches und hatte bis zum VΓΆlkermord an den Armeniern 1915 einen großen armenischen BevΓΆlkerungsteil.

Geschichte

Als Verwaltungsprovinz wurde Bitlis nach dem Russisch-Türkischen Krieg von 1877-1878 geformt. Zuvor war es Teil des Sandschaks von Muş innerhalb des VilÒyets von Erzurum.

BevΓΆlkerung

Noch im Jahre 1878 bis 1879 hatte das VilΓ’yet Bitlis eine BevΓΆlkerungszahl von 400.000 Einwohnern, von denen 200.000 Armenier waren.

Im Jahre 1914 waren bereits 309.999 Einwohner muslimischcite-ref-1914-zensus-1-0[1] und nur noch 117.492 Armeniercite-ref-1914-zensus-1-1[1].
